Heritage & Significance
Located just a short, 15-minute boat ride off the coast of Nilaveli Beach, Pigeon Island National Park is one of only two marine national parks in Sri Lanka. The park is named after the rock pigeons that inhabit the rugged granite cliffs of the island. It consists of two distinct islands— Large Pigeon Island and Small Pigeon Island—surrounded by a spectacular, highly diverse coral reef system that forms one of the premier snorkeling and scuba diving destinations in the country.
